Improving health and reducing health
inequalities –
A local authority perspective
Councils deliver a range
of services that have a fundamental impact on health.
Councils already work with health services to improve
inequalities and negative effects on health. Some of
the issues faced include a constant challenge to maximise
impact on the population’s health, and a
need to integrate both national and local activities within
the community planning process.
One possible solution may
lie in taking a more “holistic/systematic approach” to
planning and delivering health improvement/inequality.
