Communities and Well Being in Scotland: Creating a New Approach

The health and wellbeing of the population remains a key topic for debate in Scotland. The focus for that debate is often the size and shape of our health and care services.

But our health and wellbeing is largely determined by a range of factors that have little or nothing to do with the NHS. Professionals often describe these factors as ‘the wider social determinants of health’.

These include issues such as incomes, education, the physical environment in which we live and our experience of work.

This conference represents an opportunity to think more widely about Scotland’s health and wellbeing. If we are to transform the health of our communities, we need to understand the factors that are influencing their health and wellbeing, and what we might do to promote good health and wellbeing in our communities rather than cope with the absence of it.

Join the Minister, national and local policy makers, practitioners and stakeholders from a range of disciplines for this opportunity to discuss the wider context of health and wellbeing in Scotland’s communities.
