The System Boundary

You’ll also see a purple line enclosing the pictures and arrows. This represents the boundary of our system – our research is trying to understand what is going on inside the boundary.

There are some influences on population health shown outside the boundary on this map – ‘Culture’, ‘Genetic Profile’ and ‘Global Capital & Markets’. Putting them outside the boundary shows that they have a broad, sweeping influence right across the system, but that we are not trying to be specific here about how that works. They are important, but we want to focus on other things – the things that that we think Scottish public policy can change.
