*** CALL FOR PARTNERS ***
Building on the findings of our work in 2006, we The aim of the discussions is to see if a pause for reflection – an increasingly rare and widely missed commodity – will uncover any new thinking on some familiar wellbeing issues. We held our first, very
successful event in Dundee on 26 April, in partnership with local hosts
from Dundee’s Mental Wellbeing network
Future Events Future events will also be organised in co-operation with local partners, and will address the population health and wellbeing issues that are most relevant in each area. A report of the key points from all of the discussions will be published at the end of the completed series.
If you would like to receive more information on these events, or would be interested in hosting one in your area, please contact: Andrew Harris , at the Scottish Council
Foundation
Other News Unfortunately, Nicole Hastings has left the SCF to return to her home in the USA. We were very sad to see her go, but wish her every success. More positively, since the last newsletter, the findings of the Wellbeing Project have been aired at seminars in Stirling and Manchester. At the first, Andrew Harris and Professor Phil Hanlon discussed the links between Community Learning and Development (CLD) and wellbeing, with the participants at the ‘Serious Fun, Too!’ CLD conference. At the second, Andrew shared some of the ideas developed since publication of Working the System with an audience of public sector professionals and community project workers from the North-West of England, who also heard from the New Economics Foundation. Click here to see NEF’s work on wellbeing. Derek Cox from Dumfries & Galloway also shared some of the work his team is developing to measure different dimensions of wellbeing.
In order to encourage discussion we will post a monthly blog on issues prompted by our work. Please check out the July blog ‘My wellbeing may erode yours’.
Look out for Future Issues! We produce these newsletters on a regular basis and hope that you will find them informative and interesting. They constitute one of the many steps we are taking to stimulate the debate amongst leading opinion formers on what is the best way of ensuring Scotland’s national state of wellbeing. We hope that you will be a regular participant in this debate!
The Scottish Council Foundation and Pfizer have been working in partnership since May 2005 to develop the Wellbeing Project programme. The centrepiece of the project so far has been the publication of Working the System – Creating a State of Wellbeing, which was released in September 2006.
